Can you check if this is the issue with Default MyBB theme?
I believe this is related to MyBB settings related to who can view users online.
You need to check in your user groups setting for guest in MyBB that they can view who's online.
To upgrade to FA 5, you can modify the fontawesome link in MyBB headerinclude (Templates and Styles>GoDark Templates>Ungrouped Templates>headerinclude) template with this
